The book of Mark is a Gospel that contains Narrative History, Sermons, Parables, and some Prophetic Oracles. This Gospel has somewhat of an emphasis in miracles (27 total) which is significantly more than any of the other Gospels. The book of Lamentations is book of sorrowful songs or poems. The name implies that the topic is expressing grief over something (to lament). Bogens titel er en del af et indisk ordsprog, der siger: "Det er de små aber i træernes toppe, som først ser solopgangen."Bogen former sig som en samtale mellem forfatteren, debattøren og foredragsholderen Ebbe Kløvedal Reich og Johannes H. Christensen, der er sognepræst i Skovshoved og desuden tilknyttet Jyllands-Posten som kommentator, film- og litteraturanmelder. De to deler en fælles historisk og samfundsmæssig erindring, men har meget forskellig baggrund. Ebbe Kløvedal Reich kom fra et arbejdsomt, borgerligt hjem i Gentofte, Johannes H. Christensen er opvokset på en præstegård i det nordlige Thy.Samtalen bevæger sig ind på temaer som barndommen, betydningen af den samfundsmæssige udvikling i halvtresserne og tresserne, Vietnamkrigens betydning for udviklingen af en politisk bevidsthed hos generationenungdomsoprøret, kollektivbevægelsen, erfaringer med euforiserende stoffer, Christiania, udviklingen af EU fra indmeldelsen i '72 og modstanden imod den – alt sammen på baggrund af de to samtalendes personlige aktiviteter, erindringer og vurderinger.

Med udgangspunkt i den forskning redegør fortælleren for sine egne og Belloris tanker om englene.I den sidste del af "Alting har en tid" vender Henrik Vankel tilbage. Han er taget ud på en lille norsk ø, hvor han opholder sig i selvvalgt isolation i et forsøg på at bearbejde eftervirkningerne af sin forbrydelse fra romanen "Ude af verden", hvor han som lærer forførte en af sine elever.
