Ørnsbo vandt en lang række priser for sit virke, bl.a. Aarestrup Medaljen (1982), Det Danske Akademis Pris (1984) og Danske Dramatikeres Hæderspris (1989). "Dværgen der blev væk" er forfatterens debut som dramatiker. Stykket blev skrevet i 1962 og første gang opført på studenterscenen i 1966.Universet i teaterstykket er absurd.
