Jensen (1873 - 1950) var en dansk forfatter, oversætter og debattør. I 1944 modtog han Nobelprisen i litteratur og i 1999 kårede læserne af Politiken og Berlingske hovedværket "Kongens fald" til det 20. århundredes bedste roman, som også senere blev en del af Kulturkanonen. Jensen var særdeles produktiv og udover sine digte, skuespil og skønlitterære noveller og romaner, var han en flittig skribent af kronikker og debatindlæg til dagblade og tidsskrifter ligesom han står bag en række kulturkritiske artikler og essays.

I begyndelsen af 1400-tallet besluttede Erik af Pommern, der på den tid regerede over Danmark, Norge og Sverige, at Sønderjylland skulle genindlemmes i det danske rige. I romanen "Krøniker fra Erik af Pommerns tid" beskriver Carl Bernhard den årelange krig mod de holstenske grever og ikke mindst det rænkespil, der fandt sted i kulissen på både dansk og tysk side.Carl Bernard er pseudonym for den danske forfatter Andreas Nicolai de Saint-Aubain (1798-1865), der stod bag en række romaner og noveller. Carl Bernard er særligt kendt for sine historiske romaner, der bar præg af stort kendskab til de få kilder, der dengang fandtes om de historiske perioder, han skrev om. Ulrichsen er forfatter, foredragsholder og kulturpersonlighed, der har udgivet en lang række bøger med vægt på historie og spændende personligheder.

"Bruden fra Messina" foregår på Sicilien i 1000-tallet, hvor en fyrstefamilie strides indbyrdes. Brødrene Don Manuel og Don Cæsar kæmper om magten efter deres faders død, og moderen Isabella forsøger – i første omgang forgæves - at slutte fred mellem dem. Men freden varer ikke længe, da brødrene imidlertid har forelsket sig i den samme, ukendte kvinde.Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (1759-1805) var en tysk digter, dramatiker og historiker. Selvom han kom fra små kår, blev han uddannet i jura og medicin, og i sin studietid skrev han det første skuespil, "Røverne", der fik ham arresteret og sat under et skriveforbud. Han flygtede i 1787 til Weimar, hvor han blev professor i historie og filosofi. Han grundlagde Weimar Theater sammen med Goethe, der overtalte ham til at fortsætte med at skrive skuespil. Er efter sin død blevet hyldet som en af periodens største dramatikere.

"Ryd Klosters årbog" har fået sit navn, fordi man mener, at den er blevet til i Ryd kloster i Angel i Sønderjylland. Årbogen skriver sig ind i en middelalderlig tradition, hvor man nedskrev årlige kalendernotitser og derfor er de fleste årbøger meget kortfattede selvom de med tiden blev mere omfattende. Disse nedskrivninger er til gengæld et enestående bidrag til vores historieskrivning og vores viden om politiske, religiøse og kulturelle strømninger og stridigheder i middelalderen. "Ryd Kloster årbog" er oversat fra latin af forfatteren selv og rummer også en stamtavle over det danske kongehus.Rikke Agnete Olsen (f. 1939) er en dansk historiker og forfatter. Hun blev uddannet i historie og fransk fra Københavns Universitet i 1966 og blev efterfølgende museumsinspektør ved Nationalmuseet med ansvar for middelaldersamlingen. Siden 1971 har Olsen skrevet bøger og forsket i Danmarks historie med fokus på middelalderen. Hun har skrevet en lang række bøger om sit forskningsfelt, herunder "Sjællandske krønike" fra 1981, "Borge i Danmark" fra 1986 og "Da riget var ungt" fra 1999, som blev udgivet i forbindelse med middelalderåret i Danmark.

Sagn, eventyr og overleveringer siger meget om et folk, deres historie og kultur. Allerede i 1860 begyndte grønlandsforskeren Hinrich Rink at indsamle og nedskrive de historier og eventyr, som den oprindelige grønlandske befolkning fortalte ham. Fortællingerne er her samlet sammen med en præsentation af inuitterne i Grønland. Bogen viser den ældgamle kulturs mangfoldighed og giver samtidig et indblik i, hvordan man opfattede Grønland og landets oprindelige befolkning i 1800-tallet."Eskimoiske eventyr og sagn" er en genudgivelse af et tidligere værk udgivet med datidens sprogbrug.Hinrich Rink (1819-1893) var en dansk forfatter, geograf, geolog og grønlandsforsker. Han kom til Grønland for første gang i 1848 og fik allerede dengang en stor interesse for den grønlandske befolkning og dens kultur. Hinrich Rink skrev flere bøger om Grønlands geografi, befolkning, undergrund, kultur og sagn. Han var Ridder af Dannebrog og medlem af Videnskabernes Selskab. Udover de mange rejser til Grønland deltog Hinrich Rink i flere ekspeditioner rundt om i verden.

Sagnet om Faust, der sælger sin sjæl til Djævelen, er blevet fortalt i forskellige afskygninger igennem århundreder og ligger også til grund for Goethes mesterværk af samme navn. Hensigten med Carl Kochs bog er at indføre læseren i Goethes Faust, således at denne opnår en dybere forståelse af værket og dets mange fortolkningsmuligheder og skjulte henvisninger.Carl Koch (1860-1925) var dansk præst og forfatter. Han blev uddannet cand.theol. i 1884 og arbejdede som lærer ved Birkerød Latinskole, før han blev kapellan og senere valgmenighedspræst. Carl Koch har skrevet en lang række bøger om blandt andet Goethe, Brorson, Kierkegaard og Jesu lignelser.
