Commence là un travail effréné : il n’arrête plus. En seulement sept ans il publie « Le Comte de Monte-Cristo » (1844-1846), « La Reine Margot » (1844-1845), « Le Chevalier de Maison-Rouge » (1845-1846), « La Dame de Monsoreau » (1845-1846)...

Amb deu anys va ingresar en un seminari, on va cursar els seus estudis eclesiàstics. Al 1965 va participar en els seus primers Jocs Florals i va guanyar dos premis. Verdaguer és un dels màxims exponents de la Renaixença catalana i del romanticisme que dominava l’època. Igual que autors contemporànis, Verdaguer va perseguir la modernització i recuperació de la llengua catalana. Va morir al 1902 malalt de tuberculosis.

Im Bericht über die Reise erzählt die mutige Amerikanerin von Angriffen wilder Tiere, heimtückischen Krankheiten und anderen Widrigkeiten – aber auch von hochinteressanten Begegnungen mit afrikanischen Volksstämmen und ihren Bräuchen. Nach ihrer Rückkehr aus Afrika wurde Sheldon als eine der ersten Frauen in die Royal Geographic Society aufgenommen.

6.12.1912, Amarna, Ägypten: Im Auftrag des Berliner Mäzens James Simon erforschen deutsche Archäologen im Winter 1912/13 Amarna, die Stadt des Pharaos Echnaton und seiner Frau Nofretete. Am Nikolaustag stoßen sie im Haus des Bildhauers Thutmose auf einen sensationellen  Fund: Ein farbig gefasster Frauenkopf von außerordentlicher Schönheit und Qualität tritt ans Licht. Der Grabungsleiter Ludwig Borchardt notiert in sein Tagebuch: "Arbeit ganz hervorragend. Beschreiben nützt nichts, ansehen!" Der spannende archäologische Reisebericht wird gelesen von Frank Arnold, der bereits C.W. Cerams Klassiker Götter, Gräber und Gelehrte gesprochen hat.

Der Norddeutsche Gerhard Rohlfs (1831-1896) ging 1856 als Fremdenlegionär nach Algerien und lernte Arabisch. In den nächsten Jahren unternahm er mehrere Expeditionen nach Timbuktu und erreichte als erster Europäer die Oase Tafilalet. Im Mai 1865 versuchte er von Tripolis aus die Sahara zu durchqueren, was ihm mit einigen Umwegen auch gelang. So musste er schon in Ghadames die Route wegen feindlicher Tuareg ändern und reiste stattdessen über Murzuk im Fessan zum Tschadsee und weiter über den Niger, bis er 1867 Lagos am Golf von Guinea erreichte.Friedrich Gerhard Rohlfs (1831-1896) war ein deutscher Afrikareisender und Schriftsteller.

Der britisch-amerikanische Journalist Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) erhielt 1869 den Auftrag, den verschollenen David Livingstone zu suchen. Livingstone war Arzt, Missionar und ein berühmter Afrikaforscher, der 1866 zu den ostafrikanischen Seen aufgebrochen war. Stanley ließ sich mit der Erfüllung seines Auftrags viel Zeit, berichtete von der Eröffnung des Suezkanals und von Ausgrabungen in Jerusalem, bevor er 1871 aufbrach. Am 10.11.1871 traf er in der Nähe des Tanganjikasees auf den Verschollenen, den er mit der berühmten Frage begrüßte: "Doctor Livingstone, I presume?" ("Dr. Livingstone, wie ich vermute?")Sir Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) war ein britisch-amerikanischer Journalist, Afrikaforscher und Buchautor. Stanley wurde bekannt durch seine Expeditionsreisen in Afrika – die Suche nach David Livingstone und die Erforschung und Erschließung des Kongo.
